Job Description

Essex Hybrid Working

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a commercially minded lawyer to join a highly regarded in-house legal team within a major international trade, infrastructure and logistics business.

As the organisation continues to grow and invest in its UK operations, they are looking to appoint either a Legal Counsel or Senior Legal Counsel, depending on experience. More importantly, they are seeking an individual who is collaborative, pragmatic and commercially aware, with the ability to build strong relationships across the business.

This is a broad, hands-on role offering exposure to complex commercial matters, procurement activity, infrastructure projects and strategic business initiatives within a fast-paced operational environment.

The Role

Working closely with senior legal leadership, you will act as a trusted advisor to the business, providing practical legal support across a diverse range of matters.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements, including procurement, logistics, technology, property, construction and services contracts.
  • Advising on contractual risk, commercial arrangements and regulatory obligations.
  • Supporting procurement and tender processes, including public-sector or regulated procurement matters where applicable.
  • Providing legal support on significant infrastructure, operational and development projects.
  • Advising on customer and supplier arrangements, risk allocation and business change initiatives.
  • Supporting UK GDPR and data protection matters.
  • Managing external legal advisers where required.
  • Building strong relationships across the business and delivering pragmatic, solutions-focused advice.
  • Monitoring legal and regulatory developments and translating these into practical commercial guidance.

About You

The business is open to candidates from a range of PQE levels and backgrounds. They are far more focused on finding someone who will thrive within their culture and can build trusted relationships across the organisation.

You are likely to have:

  • Qualified Solicitor status in England & Wales.
  • Experience handling commercial contracts and wider business legal matters, gained either in-house or in private practice.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A pragmatic and commercially focused approach to problem solving.
  • The confidence to operate in a fast-paced business environment.
  • The ability to balance legal risk with commercial objectives.

Experience within logistics, transportation, infrastructure, property, construction, energy or technology would be advantageous but is not essential.

Why Apply?

This is an opportunity to join a globally connected organisation operating at the heart of international trade and logistics during an exciting period of growth and investment.

You will gain exposure to:

  • High-profile infrastructure and development projects.
  • Complex commercial contracting and procurement matters.
  • Strategic business initiatives with genuine commercial impact.
  • Senior stakeholders across the organisation.
  • A varied and intellectually stimulating workload within a supportive legal team.

Most importantly, you'll join a business that values attitude, collaboration and commercial thinking just as highly as technical legal expertise.
