Head of Transactional Finance - Interim

My client is a global engineering business based in Gloucester who are looking to take on an interim Head of Transactional Finance on an initial 6-month basis.

Your new role

The role will lead our UK transactional finance operation, with 8 direct reports across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Credit Control, supporting our UK sites. This is a high-volume, operationally demanding environment, so we are looking for someone who has already led a sizeable finance shared services / finance operations function and can operate at both a strategic and hands-on level.

The immediate priorities will be to stabilise the function, assess workload and capability, strengthen controls and processes, and ensure the team is structured appropriately for the volume and demands of the business.

Key areas of responsibility will include:

• Leadership of AP, AR and Credit Control across the UK
• Oversight of high-volume invoice and transactional processing
• Working capital and debt management
• Leading weekly debt and cash collection reviews
• Balance sheet reconciliations and control
• Ownership and improvement of the GRNI process
• Month-end support and maintaining ledger integrity
• Customer and supplier master data controls
• Reviewing team capacity, capability and ways of working
• Establishing appropriate KPIs, service levels and accountability
• Identifying opportunities for process improvement, standardisation and automation
• Supporting internal and external audit requirements
• Building strong relationships with Finance and operational leadership across our UK sites
• Challenging operational stakeholders where upstream processes or behaviours are creating unnecessary pressure within Finance
