Responsibilities
- Offer timely and practical legal counsel to internal stakeholders and business units across the EU and UK on all ABAC related issues and risks, including gifts, entertainment, sponsorship, donations, and engagement with public officials.
- Lead or support responses to regulatory inquiries, complaints and audits involving political activities within the EU and UK.
- Advise and counsel on sustainability related risks, impacts and opportunities, and support compliance with ESG reporting, governance and due diligence obligations across the EU and UK.
- Provide strategic and regulatory support on CSR and sustainability matters for relevant business lines, products and initiatives, including identifying risks and evaluating mitigations and strategies to increase impact.
- Monitor existing and proposed regulations, standards and frameworks relating to ESG and political law activities within the EU and UK region, and collaborate with cross functional teams to perform relevant time sensitive assessments, interpretations and determinations of applicability.
- Advise and counsel on political law and ESG compliance policies, procedures, and controls to comply with evolving EU and UK regulatory requirements.
- Provide counsel related to CSR social impact partnerships, employee engagement programs, and related agreements with varying levels of complexity.
- Evaluate and provide recommendations on a wide variety of engagements involving government organizations or government officials, including sponsorships and donations, political advertising agreements, gift and hospitality events, and third party service provider agreements, such as lobbying firms and political consultants.
- Develop a strategic approach to compliance training and communications, and deliver the training and implement communications plans to increase ABAC, political law and ESG compliance awareness across the region.
- Work closely with the Global COE and other regional counsel to ensure consistency, share knowledge, and align regional execution with global standards and strategy.
- Provide timely legal advice on requests from internal stakeholders on political law and sustainability related topics.
- Undertake special projects and support other compliance program initiatives as needed.
Qualifications
- Qualified to practice law in the UK or a major jurisdiction within the EU.
- Significant experience gained across government, private practice and/or in house.
- Understanding of the key ABAC, public law, ESG/CSR, and human rights regulations, standards and frameworks applicable in the EU and UK.
- Ability to independently identify and evaluate legal and reputational risk in business contexts and make well informed recommendations.
- Excellent cross functional collaboration skills, including navigating leadership, internal stakeholders, and external partners in a complex and challenging environment, and working effectively with a Global team across time zones.
- Excellent legal and business judgment, strategic thinking, and the ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously.
- Preferred: Experience in the Technology industry.
- Preferred: Experience advising on both ABAC and ESG/CSR matters within the EU and UK.
