Kitchen Assistant

Location: WA13, WA5 and WA1

Grade: 3

Hours: 20 hours per week (term time / as recruited)

Reporting to: Catering Supervisor

Primary Purpose of the Role

To support the Catering Supervisor in the preparation, simple cooking, serving and clearing of food within school settings. The role includes maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene and customer service while working as part of a team to deliver a quality school meals service.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with the basic preparation, cooking and service of food and beverages, ensuring correct portion control and good food presentation.
  • Support the packing and unpacking of packed lunches and/or transported meals.
  • Carry out general kitchen duties including washing up, setting up and clearing equipment, and arranging tables and chairs in dining areas.
  • Clean kitchen areas and catering equipment in line with the published cleaning schedule to maintain food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Ensure all Health & Safety, COSHH and food hygiene requirements are adhered to at all times.
  • Operate handheld electronic devices where required under the direction of the Catering Supervisor.
  • Follow the Food Safety Management System procedures to maintain appropriate hygiene standards.
  • Promote school meals positively to encourage uptake, supporting any promotional activities when required.
  • Attend training sessions, seminars or service-specific development activities as necessary.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with headteachers, school staff, pupils, parents and colleagues.
