Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Commutable to Preston (3 days in office per week)
Salary: 40,000 - 55,000 (depending on experience)
Working Hours: 40 hours per week (flexible between 7:00am - 6:30pm)

The Role

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer (mid to senior level) to join our growing team. You will be working on a range of projects within the water and wastewater sector, supporting key clients including Welsh Water, United Utilities, and Yorkshire Water.



Key Responsibilities

  • Produce high-quality mechanical design drawings in line with project guidelines (AMP8 and beyond)
  • Develop design documentation including P&IDs, piping layouts, and technical specifications
  • Carry out design calculations such as stress analysis where required
  • Participate in HAZOP studies and contribute to project safety and compliance
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, site engineers, and internal stakeholders
  • Liaise with clients to gather and clarify project requirements
  • Support design leads with site surveys when necessary (occasional travel required)


About You

  • Proven experience in mechanical design engineering
  • Strong background in the water or wastewater industry (essential)
  • Experience working for a design & build contractor (Tier 1 preferred)
  • Proficient in AutoCAD
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with a variety of stakeholders
  • A proactive, self-starting approach with strong problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
