This law firm are looking for an experienced Tax Accountant with strong UK personal tax expertise to join a specialist tax function supporting senior individuals within a professional services environment.

The Role
You'll play a key role in managing the annual personal tax compliance cycle, taking responsibility for preparing returns, calculating liabilities, managing tax reserves and acting as a trusted point of contact for partners, former partners and external advisers.
Working closely with the Head of UK Tax, you'll be hands-on in delivery while also contributing to continuous improvement across processes, controls and data management.
Key Responsibilities as the Tax Accountant
Personal Tax Compliance (Core Focus)
- Supporting the full annual UK personal tax compliance timetable.
- Preparing UK Self Assessment (ITSA) tax returns, including amendments to prior-year estimates.
- Calculating personal tax liabilities and refunds.
- Maintaining accurate control schedules to ensure completeness of the tax population.
- Registering individuals for National Insurance and ITSA and managing HMRC agent authorisations.
- Preparing partner aide memoires at the start of each tax year.
- Preparing banking instructions and schedules for HMRC payments and tax reserve releases.
- Assisting with the build-up, maintenance and release of personal tax reserves.
- Filing returns and issuing submission confirmations.
- Liaising professionally with partners, former partners and third-party tax advisers.
Data, Analysis & Reporting
- Preparing and maintaining detailed spreadsheets covering tax returns, reserves, payments, pensions and return progress.
- Analysing income and expenditure to support business tax computations.
Technical & Regulatory
- Keeping up to date with UK personal tax legislation, including devolved income tax rates (e.g. Scottish and Welsh taxes).
- Ensuring the accurate application of allowances, adjustments, deductions and credits.
Wider Support
- Providing cover for other tax roles as required.
- Supporting the Head of UK Tax on ad-hoc projects and queries.
What They're Looking For in this Tax Accountant role
This role is best suited to someone with solid, hands-on UK personal tax experience who enjoys ownership, accuracy and stakeholder interaction.
Essential:
- Strong, practical understanding of UK personal taxation.
- Experience preparing UK income tax returns.
- High level of IT literacy and confidence working with detailed data and spreadsheets.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage deadlines.
Desirable:
- Formal tax or accountancy qualification (or qualified by experience).
- Experience using CCH or similar tax software.
- Background in professional services or partnership environments.
