Overview

East Sussex County Council is seeking an experienced Children's Social Worker to join the East Duty Team, a fast-paced frontline service covering child protection and statutory safeguarding work. This is an excellent opportunity for a practitioner confident in duty work, child protection investigations, and court-related practice within a high-performing local authority setting.

You will be responsible for managing a varied caseload of children in need of protection and support, ensuring timely decision-making and robust safeguarding interventions.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake Child Protection assessments (s17 & s47 Children Act 1989)
• Manage a duty caseload of approximately 18 children
• Complete high-quality initial and core assessments within statutory timescales
• Undertake direct work with children, young people, and families
• Prepare court reports and statutory documentation to a high standard
• Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners to safeguard children at risk
• Respond effectively to safeguarding concerns as part of the duty rota

Essential Requirements

• Minimum 3+ years post-qualified experience (PQE) in a UK Local Authority Children's Social Work setting
• SWE registration (Social Work England)
• Full UK driving licence and access to transport
• Proven experience in child protection work, including s17 and s47 assessments
• Experience in direct work with children and families in complex safeguarding contexts
• Strong experience in report writing, including court reports and statutory documentation
