Job Description

Our client, a government-led organisation, are currently searching for a Senior Mechanical Engineer (Design and Building Services) to join their Design Authority team based in London on a 6-month contract basis.

Role: Senior Mechanical Engineer (Design and Building Services)

Location: London (Hybrid - 3 days on-site per week)

Duration: 6-months

Hours / Days: 36 hours per week excl. breaks (Open to part-time/job-share applicants)

Exact daily hours can be negotiated with line management post-interview

Salary: £435-465 interim day rate - inside IR35

Start Date: ASAP pending Enhanced Security Clearance

The In-House Services and Estates team (IHSE) manages all property and engineering infrastructure across the estate. This consists of 14 main buildings and spans 4 conservation areas. The Design Authority manages the life cycle of the buildings together with providing advice and assurance to the Project Delivery and Maintenance groups.

Responsibilities:

  • Support and deputise for the Lead Mechanical Engineer in the Design Authority
  • Install and replace mechanical and specialist building services
  • Develop life cycle strategies with responsibility of design guides and standards
  • Write briefs for specialist improvement projects and feasibility studies
  • Provide expert support to ongoing projects and programmes to initiate improvements and ensure life cycle value for money.

Competencies:

  • Be able provide content for relevant FOI requests
  • Understand and apply tendering processes, KPI's and RIBA Plans of Work
  • Experienced in overseeing site installation, monitoring, testing, and commissioning
  • Familiar with high-profile stakeholder environments and managing effective team relationships
  • Effectively present varied technical information clearly to lay audiences
  • Basic understanding of tender processes, contract management, finance, public procurement, listed buildings and safety regulations

Additional:

  • Be able to maintain key relationships with project leaders, restoration and renewal teams, operations, procurement and finance teams, external colleagues and related statutory bodies
  • You will oversee teams including engineers, surveyors, project managers, conservation architects, design frameworks and specialist contractors
  • Research, development and upkeep strategies, policies and plans for the heating, air conditioning, water treatment, public health systems, steam conversion to LTHW, BMS/PLC systems, life cycle maintenance plans, modification proposals
  • Develop and keep up to date the building services design guide
  • Ensure compliance with current and new regulations and legislation for all stages of all projects
  • Incorporate accessibility and environmental sustainability into projects wherever possible
  • Ensure advantages of Building Information Modelling are incorporated in relevant documents
