Laboratory Technician (Chemistry)

Location: Southampton

Pay: £26.31 per hour

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 07:30-16:00 with flexible hours

Duration: 3 months initially, with potential to extend

Start: ASAP

Team: Working as part of a team of 3

Kinetic plc are currently recruiting for a Laboratory Technician (Chemistry) to join a field service team supporting a major customer within a crude oil refinery environment.

The role will involve regular sampling, analysis and reporting of crude oil, process waters and routine process streams, helping to optimise chemical injection systems and overall process performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and assess chemical injection systems for reliability and performance.
  • Sample and analyse crude oil, water and process streams.
  • Use Hach testing equipment, including spectrophotometers, pH meters and TDS meters.
  • Undertake basic Ion Chromatography (IC) analysis.
  • Monitor chemical dosage rates and inventory.
  • Troubleshoot systems and take corrective action where required.
  • Interpret results and provide recommendations to improve performance.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Work safely and professionally within a refinery environment.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • A Chemistry/Science qualification, technical diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Previous laboratory, analytical or industrial chemistry experience.
  • Experience with sampling and analysis of water or process streams.
  • Experience using laboratory/field testing equipment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and customer-facing skills.
  • Good IT skills, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a small team.
