Domestic Abuse Support Worker
Location: Stockport, Greater Manchester
Salary: 27,467 per annum
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week
Contract: Temporary until April 2027
Working Pattern: Hybrid, with some home-based working and travel across Stockport
Employment Type: Full-time

About the Role
We are looking for a compassionate and experienced Domestic Abuse Support Worker to join a dedicated service supporting individuals and families affected by domestic abuse.
This is a rewarding opportunity to provide person-led, strengths-based and holistic support, helping people improve their wellbeing, build resilience, increase independence and, most importantly, stay safe.
You will act as a key point of contact for individuals requiring support, helping them identify their own solutions and develop personalised plans to achieve positive and sustainable outcomes.
The role will involve working across a range of community locations within Stockport, alongside some home-based working.

Key Responsibilities
As a Domestic Abuse Support Worker, you will:

• Provide comprehensive information, advice and practical support to people experiencing domestic abuse.
• Work with individuals to identify their strengths, needs and personal goals.
• Develop and co-produce personalised support plans focused on positive outcomes.
• Help individuals build confidence, resilience and independence.
• Identify and reduce risks associated with domestic abuse.
• Support people during periods of crisis and help reduce the likelihood of future crisis situations.
• Explore and develop informal support networks and connections within the community.
• Provide a holistic approach to support, considering physical, mental, social and financial wellbeing.
• Work assertively and creatively to engage individuals who may be difficult to reach.
• Provide appropriate challenge, advice and guidance to promote positive and healthy relationships.
• Identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns.
• Work collaboratively with partner organisations, statutory agencies and other professionals.
• Maintain accurate records and complete relevant data and monitoring requirements.
• Work flexibly in response to the needs of the service and the people being supported.
• Undertake lone working, including visiting individuals in their homes and community settings.

About You
We are looking for someone who has a genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable people and understands the impact domestic abuse can have on individuals and families.
You will ideally have:

• Experience supporting people who have experienced domestic abuse, or experience working with vulnerable adults.
• A good understanding of domestic abuse, its impact and the barriers faced by survivors.
• Experience of delivering a person-led and strengths-based approach.
• The ability to provide information, advice and signposting, including to people experiencing crisis or complex circumstances.
• Experience developing personalised plans and working towards positive outcomes.
• Strong risk assessment and safeguarding awareness.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with service users, professionals and statutory agencies.
• The ability to build trusted and productive relationships.
• A creative and solution-focused approach to supporting people.
• The resilience and confidence to work with challenging and complex situations.
• The ability to manage a demanding workload, prioritise competing demands and work flexibly.
• Good literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
• The confidence and willingness to work independently and undertake lone working.
• A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business/work purposes, as regular travel across Stockport will be required.
