The STEM Activities Coordinator is responsible for coordinating our curriculum enrichment activities and supporting our wider STEM engagement, working with schools and colleges. Many of these activities take place in The Wohl Reach Out Lab - a dedicated multi-disciplinary space where school pupils from 4 - 18 years old can come onto campus and take part in hands-on science practicals led by academics and/or the central Outreach team.

The postholder also leads on liasion with academic and research departments to develop engaging STEM content for our stand-alone summer programmes, including our central Work Experience Programme. As part of this role, the postholder is responsible for our pool of Outreach STEM Leaders, coordinating their training and development and supporting them to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers.

What you would be doing

As the STEM Activities Coordinator, you will:

  • Coordinate the programme of curriculum enrichment within the Wohl Reach Out Lab (WROL), including liasing with target schools, managing budgets and ensuring academic content and operational needs are met.
  • Coordinate the academic content for stand-alone summer programmes, including identifying departments to take part, liasing with key academic leads and providing advice and guidance on activities.
  • Lead the coordination of the central Work Experience Programme, including liasing with key academic leads to develop the content and struture of the programme, managing the application and recruitment process, ensiring Health and Safety requirements are in place and coordinating the programme when live
  • Line manage the Wohl Reach Out Lab Technician and the Schools Partnerships Administrator
  • Act as the supporting safety officer for Outreach, including training casual staff in local safety processes, developing and approving risk assessments, and supporting accident investigations.
  • Coordinate the recruitment, development and training of Outreach STEM Leaders, ensuring activities are taught appropriately

  • A good understanding of the three major Sciences
  • Experience of working with schools
  • Experience of developing and delivering STEM enrichment activities
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact well with children and adults
  • Knowledge of the UK school system and science curriculum
  • A well organised individual with excellent attention to detail
