Job Description

Consultant in Neurodevelopmental Paediatrics

This 6 PA substantive Consultant post is based at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Child Development Service (CDS).

The postholder will conduct outpatient clinics at St. Mary's Hospital and Woodfield Road Medical Centre, and manage children in all pathways of the service, including neurodisability, Autism, ADHD, developmental delay and safeguarding. They will liaise with the acute team for ward admissions and participate in multidisciplinary care. The postholder will also implement transition care plans during discharge to adult services.

Main duties
  • Conduct outpatient clinics at St. Mary's Hospital and Woodfield Road Medical Centre.
  • Manage children across all CDS pathways (neurodisability, Autism, ADHD, developmental delay, safeguarding).
  • Coordinate with acute teams for ward admissions and multidisciplinary care.
  • Implement transition care plans during discharge to adult services.
  • Engage in leadership roles within CDS pathways to implement commissioning body recommendations.
  • Supervise Specialist Registrars and Clinical Fellows in Neurodevelopmental Paediatrics.
  • Participate in clinical audits, Quality Improvement Projects (QIPs), and research.

Job responsibilities

The postholder will deliver a comprehensive child development and child safeguarding service, manage clinical caseloads, referrals for assessment and management of children with developmental concerns (social communication disorders, ADHD, neurodisability and complex needs), and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

Person Specification Education & Qualifications
  • MRCP, MRCPCH by examination or equivalent.
  • Full GMC registration.
  • On the GMC specialist register or within 6 months of CCT or CESR in Paediatrics, Portfolio Pathway applicants must be on the Specialist Register at the point of application.
  • Capable to work at Consultant level in Community Child Health.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Valid BLS training.
Clinical Audit
  • Experience of conducting an audit.
  • Understanding of clinical governance, patient safety and organisational risk.
Teaching
  • Experience of teaching undergraduates, junior doctors and junior members of staff.
