Probation Service Officer (PSO)
Location: Cheshunt. Hours: 37 per week. Duration: 6 months, rolling contract. Pay Rate: £22.89 per hour (umbrella, limited company).
Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of offenders assessed as low or medium risk of harm, supporting Probation Officers on higher risk cases.
- Complete offender management tasks including assessments, reviews, and risk management plans.
- Maintain accurate case records on OASys and other case management systems within agreed timescales.
- Liaise with Probation Officers, intervention staff, service providers, and external agencies to coordinate offender progress and manage risk.
- Carry out prison, home, and community visits in line with probation service policy and procedure.
- Work in line with the aims and values of the National Probation Service (NPS).
Requirements
- Experience working within probation, criminal justice, youth offending, or a related field.
- A relevant degree or professional qualification in probation, social work, criminology, or similar is desirable.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Sound understanding of risk assessment and the criminal justice system.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
