Senior Mechanical Engineer - Waste Water
Location: Salford
Duration: 12-Month Contract
Rate: £550 per day (Inside IR35)
Tier 1 water client is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the delivery of key projects within the United Utilities Water framework. This role offers the opportunity to work on essential water infrastructure schemes, contributing technical expertise across design and delivery phases in a collaborative project environment.
You'll play a pivotal role in ensuring mechanical solutions are developed efficiently, safely, and in line with industry standards, while supporting the wider engineering team and project objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Take ownership of mechanical design delivery across multiple water sector projects
Guide and mentor engineers, ensuring consistent technical quality and output
Develop scopes of work, technical specifications, and support procurement activities
Contribute to planning and programme management, ensuring timely project delivery
Coordinate with civil, electrical, and process teams to produce integrated designs
Review and approve technical documentation in line with QA procedures
Support site activities where required, including installation and commissioning phases
Maintain strong communication with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders
Requirements
Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent qualification
Chartered status (or actively working towards it) preferred
Demonstrable experience within the UK water industry
Background in delivering design solutions for infrastructure or utilities projects
Strong working knowledge of mechanical systems including pumping stations, screening equipment, and dosing systems
Familiarity with UK regulations and standards, including CDM and ATEX
Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and managing design interfaces
Strong organisational and problem-solving capabilities
