Job Description

Interim Building Safety Manager

Location: South London

Rate: £400-£500 per day dependent on experience

Working Pattern: 3 days on site, 2 days office-based

Spencer Clarke Group are recruiting for an interim Building Safety Manager to support a local authority building safety programme focused on high and medium rise private residential buildings.

This is a hands-on role for an experienced building safety or surveying professional who can review external wall systems data, assess risk, engage with stakeholders, and support enforcement activity where unsafe cladding or wider fire safety issues are identified.

Responsibilities include

  • Undertaking desktop reviews of high and medium rise residential buildings

  • Developing risk-based inspection programmes

  • Reviewing EWS data, FRAEW reports, and related fire safety documentation

  • Identifying unsafe cladding and wider building safety risks

  • Engaging with building owners to gather information on materials, interim measures, and remediation plans

  • Reviewing remediation funding data and identifying missing buildings

  • Working closely with enforcement teams and external stakeholders including fire and rescue services

About You

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Building Surveying or a related discipline

  • Around 5 years' experience in building safety, fire safety, or building surveying

  • Experience carrying out HHSRS surveys

  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation including Building Safety Act 2022, Housing Act 2004, Fire Safety Act 2021, and related regulations

  • Familiar with high-rise residential buildings and external wall systems

  • Comfortable balancing inspections, technical review work, and reporting
