Job Description

Medical Negligence Solicitor (Newly Qualified-4 PQE / CILEX)

An opportunity has arisen for a newly qualified solicitor or CILEX Fellow with Litigation Practice Rights to join a busy civil litigation team specialising in clinical negligence work. Applicants should have experience assisting with or managing clinical negligence matters. Experience in inquest work would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will become part of a busy litigation department operating across multiple offices. The role involves working within a team handling a varied and complex caseload of claimant clinical negligence matters.

You will provide clear, practical legal advice to clients pursuing claims relating to medical treatment, including surgical errors, birth-related injuries, delayed diagnosis, prescription errors, and other forms of clinical negligence. The role also involves participation in inquest-related matters, where required.

The team has a strong focus on claimant work and is experienced in handling both pre-inquest preparation and representation at coroner's hearings. A proportion of the work may be publicly funded, alongside privately funded cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing a caseload of clinical negligence claims, including complex and high-value matters
  • Providing tailored legal advice and maintaining high standards of client care
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to deliver effective outcomes
  • Ensuring efficient case progression in line with performance and billing expectations
  • Supporting the development of junior team members through supervision and guidance

About the Team

The department forms part of a larger civil litigation function within a well-established regional practice with offices across South Yorkshire. The wider organisation offers legal services to individuals and families across a range of practice areas, with a strong emphasis on client service and accessibility.

The clinical negligence team is known for its supportive and collaborative working culture, handling a broad range of claimant medical law matters including hospital negligence, birth injury claims, and inquest representation.

Benefits

  • Generous annual leave allowance, including additional discretionary days over the festive period and bank holidays
  • Flexible and hybrid working options depending on role requirements
  • Flexitime arrangements to support work-life balance
  • Additional leave purchase or flexible leave options (role dependent)
  • Performance-related bonus opportunities (for fee earners)
  • Pension scheme
  • Life assurance after qualifying service period
  • Recognition and reward schemes
  • Training and professional development support
  • Various employee wellbeing and lifestyle benefits, including health plans, cycle schemes, and savings options
  • Enhanced sick pay and family-related leave provisions (where applicable)

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated clinician negligence solicitor or CILEX-qualified practitioner looking to develop their career within a busy, supportive litigation environment with exposure to high-quality work and ongoing professional development.
