Job Description

The Lead Electrician will be in the Basingstoke area and carry out routine maintenance, repair, inspection, and installation of electrical services equipment in customers' homes and other properties in accordance with prescribed work schedules. All work must comply with Institute of Electrical Engineering (IEE) Wiring Regulations and Sovereign Network Group's (SNG) established procedures, ensuring delivery of a high-quality, safe, and customer-focused service.

Working within the broad direction set by the Technical Manager - Electrical, the role holder will deliver defined accountabilities with a limited degree of supervision. The post holder is accountable for individual performance and the impact of their work on SNG's service delivery.

Key Accountabilities:

Electrical Maintenance and Repairs

  • Carry out routine servicing, response repairs, fault diagnosis, and rectification of electrical services equipment to meet agreed work schedules and quality standards.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with current IEE Wiring Regulations and Health & Safety at Work requirements.
  • Qualified Supervisor (QS) Responsibilities
  • Undertake the duties of a NICEIC Qualified Supervisor (QS), including signing off electrical certification.
  • Audit electrical certification provided by external contractors and inspect a minimum of 10% of their on-site works.
  • Conduct audits of electricians and site validations for planned works.
  • Inspection, Reporting, and Certification
  • Accurately record and report the condition and status of electrical services equipment using inspection sheets, minor works certificates, and installation certificates.
  • Identify defects, recommend remedial actions, and escalate complex issues to the Technical Manager - Electrical where required.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of all certification and compliance documentation.
  • Participate in the out-of-hours call-out service in line with SNG policies and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Strong technical understanding of electrical safety.
  • In-depth knowledge of current electrical and relevant building regulations.
  • Ability to work independently within areas of proven competency.
  • City & Guilds 2360 or 2368 Electrical Installation Level 3, or NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation.
  • City & Guilds 2381 - Requirements for Electrical Installations (BS 7671).
  • City & Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing (for Approved Electrician status).
  • Previous experience operating at Approved Electrician or Lead Electrician level.
  • Ability to carry out NICEIC Qualified Supervisor duties.
  • Previous supervisory or auditing experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of the 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations.
  • Experience as a NICEIC Qualified Supervisor.
  • Proficiency in IT systems, including certification software and Microsoft applications.
