Job Description

The role focuses on drafting, reviewing and negotiating GMRA and GMSLA agreements to support SMBC's fixed income business. It plays a key part in managing legal risk, partnering closely with front office teams, and ensuring the effective execution of repo and stock-lending documentation across EMEA.

The client is a large, global financial institution with a strong presence across EMEA and a highly active fixed-income and securities-financing business. Their London legal team is collaborative, diverse and closely integrated with international offices, supporting high-volume trading activity and maintaining rigorous standards of professionalism, risk management and cross-department partnership.

Description

  • Draft, review and negotiate GMRA and GMSLA master agreements
  • Liaise closely with front office teams during contract negotiations
  • Engage with clients and external counsel on repo and stock-lending documentation
  • Manage regulatory and netting requirements for fixed-income documentation
  • Support development of templates, know-how and documentation standards
  • Maintain a pragmatic, risk-aware approach to enabling efficient business execution
  • Assist with identifying and mitigating legal, regulatory and commercial risks
  • Contribute to wider legal team initiatives and business growth support

Profile

The successful applicant will be an experienced legal professional with deep knowledge of GMRA and GMSLA documentation and at least eight years of industry-based negotiation experience. They will demonstrate strong analytical skills, commercial awareness and the ability to manage high-volume, time-sensitive negotiations confidently.

They will be highly articulate, adept at influencing stakeholders at all levels, and comfortable liaising directly with front office teams, clients and external counsel. A pragmatic, solutions-focused mindset is essential, along with strong organisational skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a busy, international legal function.
