Position: Careers AdvisorLocation: HornseyStart Date: 9th MarchWorking Pattern: 2-3 days per weekDuration: Approximately 3 weeks (with potential for confirmation/extension)

About the Role

We are seeking a fully qualified and experienced Careers Advisor to support students in Years 9 and 11. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality careers information, advice, and guidance (IAG) to help students make informed decisions about their academic and vocational pathways.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and confident professional who enjoys working in a school setting and supporting students during key transition points.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide impartial and personalised careers advice and guidance to Year 9 and Year 11 students.
  • Conduct one-to-one guidance sessions and group workshops where required.
  • Support students in exploring education, training, and career options.
  • Assist with GCSE and post-16 decision-making, ensuring students understand available pathways.
  • Maintain accurate records of all guidance sessions in line with school and safeguarding policies.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and senior leaders.
  • Ensure all guidance provided meets statutory Careers Guidance standards and aligns with the Gatsby Benchmarks.
  • Provide up-to-date labour market information (LMI) to help students make informed decisions.

Requirements

  • Fully qualified Careers Advisor (e.g. Level 6 or Level 7 Careers Guidance / QCG / CDI accredited qualification).
  • Previous experience in a similar school-based IAG role.
  • Strong understanding of education pathways, apprenticeships, FE, and post-16/18 options.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially when working with young people.
  • Ability to manage own workload, prioritise tasks, and work independently.
  • Reliable, organised, and confident supporting students with important decisions.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience supporting Year 9 and Year 11 specifically.
  • Knowledge of current labour market trends.
  • Experience working within the Gatsby Benchmark framework.
  • Familiarity with school safeguarding responsibilities.
