Multi - Skilled Maintenance Technician

Location: Newton-Aycliffe

Hours: 39 hours/week

Pay Rate: 22.84

Contract: 6 months

3 - Shift Pattern:

  • Monday - Thursday: 6am-12pm / 2pm-10pm / 10pm-6am
  • Friday: 6am-12pm / 12pm-6pm / 6pm-Midnight

About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to join our 3-shift production team at 3M Aycliffe. This is a hands-on role ensuring our equipment and facilities operate safely, efficiently, and reliably. You will play a key role in minimizing downtime, maintaining equipment performance, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and automated systems.
  • Respond promptly to machine breakdowns to restore production quickly.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and technical issues efficiently.
  • Support installation, testing, and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and safety checks.
  • Collaborate with production and engineering teams to identify improvements in equipment performance and reliability.
  • Adhere strictly to safety and operational standards, contributing to a safe working environment.
  • Assist in maintaining spare parts inventory and tool organization.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Proven experience in industrial maintenance, mechanical or electrical repair.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical systems, electrical circuits, motors, sensors, and PLCs.
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance schedules and procedures.
  • Knowledge of health & safety standards in a production environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a 3-shift rotation in a fast-paced environment.
  • Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail.

Preferred Background:

  • Experience attending machine breakdowns and carrying out planned maintenance in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of control systems, automation, and PLC programming basics.

Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or ONC.
  • Relevant health & safety certifications desirable (e.g., IOSH, First Aid, Risk Assessment).
