Adecco are looking for SIX dedicated and detail-oriented Benefits & Local Taxation Assessor to join our clients Council Tax and Benefits team. This is your chance to play a vital role in supporting Newham residents by ensuring fair and timely administration of Council Tax and Housing Benefits.

- Full Time - Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week
- Temporary Role - 5 months (possible extension)
- 20.74 per hour PAYE / 26.92 per hour Umbrella
- IT equipment provided
- Hybrid Working - based in East Ham on Tuesdays and Fridays, remainder is remote
- ASAP start
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and process Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction claims accurately and efficiently.
- Determine Council Tax liability, manage billing, collection, and enforcement.
- Handle complex and sensitive enquiries, including home visits and support for vulnerable residents.
- Reconsider decisions and respond to appeals in line with legislation and policy.
- Identify and report fraud, and distinguish between non-payment and genuine hardship.
- Support continuous improvement by contributing to service reviews, policy updates, and system enhancements.
- Use digital tools and IT systems to manage cases, track performance, and communicate effectively.
- Mentor and support colleagues, especially at SO2 level, including training and quality assurance.
- Respond to complaints and assist in preparing responses to MPs, Members, and Ombudsman enquiries.
- Participate in outreach events, forums, and community engagement activities.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Maintain compliance with GDPR, FOI, and all council policies and procedures.
What We're Looking For
- In-depth knowledge of Housing Benefit, Council Tax, and related legislation.
- Experience in a customer-facing, public service environment.
- Strong communication, analytical, and IT skills.
- Ability to manage a varied workload and meet deadlines.
- A team player with a proactive, flexible, and inclusive approach.
