SLB's Research Center based in Cambridge is part of SLB global network of research and engineering centres. Our research center is a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment with state-of-the-art research and computing facilities. We work on applied research projects in the physical sciences to meet the current and future challenges of the industry.

SLB's Research Center based in Cambridge is a distinctive marquee-like structure dominating the High Cross site on the western outskirts of Cambridge, England. This spectacular building was completed in 1985 and the smaller second phase was opened in 1992. It has recently been classified as a Grade II listed building. Altogether, there are more than 930 m2; of laboratory space and offices for more than 100 scientists, technicians and domain experts.

Job Summary:

As member of the Thermal Energy team, the candidate will identify appropriate technologies and concepts for in-situ sensing of geothermal properties. The work will involve adapting, expanding and developing new tools - together with the underlying physics - to characterise geothermal reservoirs in downhole environments. The project will involve laboratory work, computer modeling and theoretical analysis.

Candidates should be detail oriented, curious with a desire to overcome challenges, have problem-solving capabilities and excellent communication skills.

Deliverables:
  • Identifying, selecting and verifying suitable technologies and blueprints
  • Using data processing, analysis and interpretation methods
  • Planning and carrying out experimental work, ensuring that laboratory activities comply with highest Health, Safety and Environment standards
  • Liaising/co-ordinating work within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Writing and presenting technical reports and scientific publications


Required Skills:
  • Experience using, processing and visualising a variety of physical data
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to develop novel concepts
  • Reliable with high integrity
  • Team oriented with strong collaboration skills
  • Excellent communication abilities

Exposure to any of the following would be a plus:
  • Programming languages for data analysis (e.g.: Matlab, Python)
  • Completed entry-level courses in thermodynamics
  • Solid understanding of heat exchange principles and devices
  • 3D CAD modelling


Qualification:

Studying towards a Bachelors or Masters in physics, engineering or related field.
