An opportunity has become available to join Boeing Defence UK as a Platform Engineering Team member either based in Bristol, UK or Milton Keynes, UK.

The Platform Engineering Team is primarily focused on supporting the Ministry of Defence Support Chain Information Services (MoD SCIS) programme and the Bridging the Gap contract. The post will be jointly responsible for supporting and maintaining the Wintel estate which consists of multiple environments and technologies.

This includes monitoring the Service Management tool for Incidents, Problems, Service Requests and Change tasks to ensure we are improving the quality and adherence to contractual SLA and KPI requirements.

This is a hands-on role whereby the successful candidate will need to have experience in multiple Windows disciplines with an appreciation of other related Infrastructure disciplines including networking and storage.

There will be the requirement to work with other teams to ensure the smooth delivery of Projects and identify opportunities for improvement through automation techniques.

This role will be responsible for identifying opportunities to innovate and implement efficiencies through automation. The successful candidate will need to have strong communication and Team working skills.

This role will be responsible for:

  • M onitoring Service Management requests and resolving Incidents
  • Delivering Project work as planned through the agile platform engineering methodologies.
  • P roducing and maintaining documentation.
  • Ensuring maximum availability of the Wintel estate through monitoring.
  • Patching servers in accordance with a pre-agreed schedule
  • Updating Firmware across the Wintel estate
  • Identifying areas of improvement to ensure efficiencies and smarter ways of working.
  • Supporting delivering a One Infrastructure approach working with the Infrastructure teams.
  • Fault diagnosis including problem statements and mitigation planning.
  • Supporting the Technical and Governance processes to ensure First Time Quality.
  • Analysing the vulnerability directives for applicability to Wintel environments and implementing action plans.

The successful candidate will be expected to be part of a 24x7 on-call team and provide extended hours support via a team rota.

Experience and knowledge will be required in the following areas:

Active Directory Administration

Experience in a variety of Windows OS including 2008, 2016, 2019

VMWare

Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

Strong organisational skills

Working within an ITIL framework

Desirable Experience:


Experience of automation techniques such as Ansible, Ansible Tower, Gitlab

Experience of Citrix Application Delivery

AV and McAfee experience

VXRail

HPE Synergy

Powershell scripting
