Job Description

Principal Building Safety Manager

Ealing Council

£58,173 - £61,455

About us

Ealing is a place with huge potential. It's one of London's largest boroughs, has over 350,000 residents, and with over half from BAME communities, is rich in cultural diversity. We're home to the world-famous Ealing Studios, a number of major parks and conservation sites, a leading modern university in the University of West London, and a wide range of important businesses and enterprises. As a Council we aim to engage with our communities, and work with them in partnership. We want all our residents to have their voices heard, and our bold and imaginative ambitions are matched by our determination to do things differently.

About the role

Join us in this vital role and you'll manage a portfolio of high-rise and high-risk residential buildings, ensuring compliance with legislative regulations for building and fire safety. Leading a team of up to twelve Building Safety Managers and Officers, and taking responsibility for building safety within your portfolio, you'll also be accountable for the strategic contract management of building safety works and services contracts.

You'll have a wide range of additional responsibilities - these will include the promotion of building and fire safety to the residents of high-rise and high-risk buildings, and the constant review of the status of buildings in your portfolio, including the completion of repairs, fire risk assessments and scheduled maintenance. We'll also expect you to develop productive relationships with housing, legal and other Council teams, work to ensure access to properties to allow the completion of all works which impact on resident safety, and maintain an expert understanding of building safety regulations and guidance.

About you

With a relevant qualification or equivalent professional experience, and membership of an appropriate professional body, you'll have experience of multi-site property management in a large scale, complex environment. An inspirational leader with a solid record of professional development, you'll be ready to manage large multi-disciplinary, multi-sites teams with various technical disciplines, and be capable of overseeing large works and services budgets.

With the ability to manage technical and specialist consultants and service providers, and possessing experience of working in commercial and domestic installations, you'll be familiar with large-scale procurement and tendering processes, and possess the skills to create specifications and price documents. We'll also expect you to have experience of multi-site management and of working with large organisations, and be capable of operating in high-pressure environments with competing priorities and deadlines.

Ealing Council is committed to building a workforce which reflects the diversity of the borough's residents, encouraging applications from people of all ages, abilities, genders, sexual orientations, ethnic backgrounds and faiths, and aspires to create an inclusive workplace were everyone can be themselves at work.
