About the role

HL received over 393 million digital visits in 2021. A core part of this is our website, which provides clients with information on our service, the stock market, news, and education. Hargreaves Lansdown is looking for a talented and enthusiastic front-end web developer to join our team that's focused on building, maintaining, and improving our Web Platform (CMS). A key focus will be helping us migrate to a new headless CMS, which will transform our online experience and allow us to build rapidly, at scale, across multiple channels and services, alongside the support and delivery of changes to the existing CMS and website.

About you

We are looking for someone that is passionate about delivering market-leading digital experiences for our clients, who has previous experience in building accessible React-based user interfaces, with the ability to write and support others in writing excellent code and who ideally has worked with content management systems in the past.

Responsibilities

  • Build and run Cloud-native applications with Typescript, React and NextJS
  • Establish and maintain automated tests for the changes being implemented
  • Write high quality, secure and performant code
  • Maintain a strong awareness of accessibility standards and how to test components against best practice and existing industry standards (i.e. WCAG)
  • Advocate for continuous improvement within the team including for the quality, security and performance and CI/CD processes
  • Complete code reviews of others work to ensure quality and consistency is maintained
  • Provide day-to-day support for the CMS and website, fielding questions from wider stakeholders (e.g. content teams) and investigating and resolving issues.
  • Potentially building and implementing custom apps/plug-ins for our headless content management system if required in future

Experience

  • Demonstrable experience developing and maintaining React-based JavaScript SPAs using Next.js
  • Experience with unit, integration, and end to end testing tools and practices (e.g. Jest, Cypress, Backstop)
  • Experience interfacing with APIs, both REST and GraphQL
  • Experience using npm, package management and versioning
  • Experience using package JavaScript module bundlers (webpack, rollup.js)
  • Experience of working with a Content Management System (CMS)
  • Experience performing code reviews
  • Experience following an Agile methodology

Knowledge

Essential

  • Excellent knowledge of HTML/CSS (SCSS), JavaScript and Typescript
  • Excellent working knowledge of JavaScript libraries and frameworks, in particular, React
  • Fluent using Git (GitLab)
  • Understanding CI / CD and Trunk Based Development
  • Aware of website performance implications and best practices
  • Advocate of excellent development practices including accessibility coding practices
  • Able to write, assist in writing or reviewing technical documentation
  • Appreciation for different page rendering approaches including client side (CSR), server-side (SSR), incremental (ISR)

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working with a Headless CMS solution (e.g. Contentful)
  • Understanding and appreciation for the Jamstack architectural approach
  • Knowledge of server-side JavaScript ecosystem (Node.js)
  • Experience working with and implementing MarTech solutions such as Analytics, A/B Testing, Personalisation and Tag Management within a website
