The role

The Thematic Risk Team at the SRA is responsible for undertaking a wide range of thematic projects to consider and address key risks within the legal sector. The aim of the projects is to allow the SRA to better understand those risks and to establish a set of recommendations to address them. This normally results in the production of external reports with the purpose of demonstrating the projects' findings and to minimise poor behaviours and sector risks. Some of these projects can be high profile and impactful in nature. The Team is also expected to engage with its regulated population constructively and proactively.

The team is now expanding, and we are looking for two new Regulatory Managers.

As a Regulatory Manager, you will work as part of a small but dynamic team proactively identifying sector risks suitable for thematic review. Once a review/project is established you will have proactive engagement with law firms, including partners and senior leaders in those firms. You will carry out visits to firms to understand their approach to the identified risk, collate and analyse information to produce your findings which is shared with the public, the profession and internally within the SRA. Typically, you will be managing 2 projects at a time and each project takes around 6 months.

You will bring to the role both an ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member working with like-minded colleagues to share ideas, reviewing thematic risks and plan review projects. This is a senior role at the SRA without line management responsibility. You will have the credibility to represent the SRA and engage with senior stakeholders internally and externally.

We welcome applicants from various backgrounds including law, regulation and consultancy. A legal background would be useful but not necessary.

This role requires travel across England and Wales to carry out on-site occasionally.

What's in it for you?
  • A role where you will drive change within the legal services sector
  • Develop wide reaching relationships at a senior level both internally and externally
  • Be responsible for demonstrating a proactive approach to regulation and engagement within the legal sector
  • Showcase your ability to manage a range of projects from concept to completion

What we are looking for
  • Relevant regulatory/legal or professional experience
  • Experience of effectively project managing a project with different demands and stakeholders.
  • Significant experience of influencing and constructively challenging internal and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
  • Able to demonstrate personal accountability by taking responsibility and being results-driven.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to explain complex issues succinctly and with and to write and draft reports
  • Proven experience of operating both autonomously and collaboratively as part of a functional or cross functional team.
