Job Description

The End-to-end Systems team (approx. 10) is responsible for delivering technical aspects of studies and projects within Earth Observation and Science (EOS) and supporting activities in Telecoms and Navigation missions; undertaking R&D activities and the development of advanced products including Earth Observation (EO) ground segment elements and navigation user equipment.

Role Description

As a Technical Lead you will act as the main technical interface to the customer throughout the project life cycle. As such, the Technical Lead is responsible for all engineering work packages of the studies and projects they are assigned to. This includes: requirements capture; architecture definition and system design; performance analysis; overseeing the implementation of solutions in hardware, software & firmware from a systems perspective.

The Technical Lead is responsible for leading this team for all day-to-day work, without being their functional manager. The Technical Lead is the main technical authority for the entire end-to-end system scope. They are supported in their role by the Project Manager (for customer relationship management; schedule and budget), the Product Assurance Manager (for all quality aspects) and HO End-to-end Systems.

Main Responsibilities

  • Capture stakeholder needs and develop appropriate requirement sets including user, system and sub-system requirements.
  • Lead system architecture definition and sub-system design definition and capture outputs in design models and documentation.
  • Support the performance of analysis and trade-offs within the scope of engineering decision making by providing expert input.
  • Generate technical documentation in support of project deliveries and input for bids and proposals.
  • Lead peer-reviews of solution designs and related artefacts / documentation.
  • Lead investigation of technical issues.
  • Maintain high standards of engineering quality within the team by establishing good practices and habits.
  • Identify and encourage areas for growth and improvement within the team.
  • Adhere to high-quality system engineering principles while delivering solutions on-time and on-budget.

Experience

Technical leadership of complex / advanced space or satellite systems

System Engineering: from design through to manufacturing and test

Ground Segment engineering and operation

Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) systems and signal processing

Security and secure space systems

Working within an environment controlled strictly through an established Quality system

Technical Knowledge

Knowledge of Satellite systems (ground, space and user) for Earth Observation (EO) and Navigation

Engineering life cycles for ground and space segment

Quality standards

Skills and Attributes

Ability to lead a team within a complex multiple stakeholders environment

Demonstrable verbal and written communication skills

Strong analytical skills

Ability communicate effectively and to represent the team in front of the customer

Capable of working autonomously against tight deadlines

Qualification

A degree in Electrical, Electronic engineering, mathematics or physics

Desirable: GNSS systems and signals, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), satellite ground systems, security aspects of systems.

Additional Requirements

You will be expected to work with classified material in some cases.

Occasional / infrequent travel to support project activities and milestone is expected.

The successful candidate will be subject to UK SC Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs.
