Job Description

City of Portsmouth College has been formed by the merger of Portsmouth College and Highbury College and was formally constituted on 1 August 2021.

The newly formed College will give students of all ages even greater flexibility with their programmes and access to dedicated subject facilities at the different campus locations. The joint organisation will also expand a uniquely flexible curriculum offer within the city of Portsmouth, comprising A Levels, vocational diplomas, apprenticeships and higher education qualifications.

Job Title: Learning Assistant

Hours: Part-time, up 30 hours per week, 36 weeks per year

Contract: Permanent

The role requires an individual who has well developed organisational, communication and team working skills. They must also be able to meet targets and deadlines. The role is for up to 30 hours per week, 36 weeks per year based at the Highbury Campus or Tangier Road Campus.

Learning Assistants are responsible to the Head of Learning Support for providing high-quality support to students with learning difficulties and disabilities within the Learning Support department. Team working and communications within an overall approach that values people will be of key importance.

The interview will consist of an assessment task, more information will be given to the candidate if shortlisted.

The main duties of this post are:

  • To support students and assist teaching staff in the conduct of teaching and learning activities
  • To contribute to the assessment and accurate recording of students' progress, skills and individual learning in the required format
  • To provide learning support to help students develop language, numeracy, IT, organisational skills and confidence
  • To keep written records as requested and required for audit purposes e.g. weekly lesson plan logs and Student Reviews/Profiles
