Job Description

Total People are looking to appoint a positive, reliable apprentice to join our teaching team. As a Learning Support Assistant you will be required to provide support for learners aged 16 to 24 with Special Educational Needs Disabilities (SEND) under the direction of the class teacher including supporting learners in lessons, one to one help with specific learning activities and preparing teaching resources and displays.

The successful candidate will have a positive attitude to help motivate and engage learners within their learning and excellent numeracy and literacy skills.

You will complete a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Standard.

This post is offered a fixed term (18 months) basis, working 37 hours per week at our training centres in Crewe and Macclesfield.

Key Accountabilities include:

Work under the direction of the class tutor or SENCO to provide learning support during classroom activities, in small groups or on a one to one basis by:
Clarifying and explaining instructions
Ensuring the learner has and is able to use equipment and materials provided
Motivating and encouraging learners, by providing levels of individual attention, reassurance and help with learning tasks as appropriate to individual needs
Support learners with social and communication language, reading, spelling, numeracy, handwriting/presentation etc
Support assistive technology to help the learners in their learning and independence
Using praise, commentary and assistance to encourage the learner to concentrate and stay on task
Support learners to achieve their aims and aspirations in the wider learning experiences, encouraging learners to make informed choices in their lives and assist them in working through the consequences and taking responsibility for their behaviour
Establishing supportive relationships with the learner and their well-being and their emotional and social, personal development needs
Qualifications, Experience & Skills

Essential

A strong desire to work with young people who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND),
Excellent understanding of issues and barriers to learning for learners with a SEND and strategies to overcome these
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with a diverse range of people and be able to communicate effectively and appropriately to learners with different abilities.
Ability to motivate individuals to engage in all aspects of learning
Level 2 Maths and English or equivalent or willingness to work towards.
