Location: Your normal place of work is European Islamic Centre, Werneth House, 79 Manchester Rd, Oldham, OL8 4LN. You may, however, be required to travel from time to time to our London office and other UKIM branches across the country as an when required. Reasonable expenses for such travel will be reimbursed.You will not be required to work outside the UK for any continuous period of more than one month during the term of your employment.
Contract: Permanent (or 2-year fixed-term)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £26,000-£30,000 per annum (depending on skills and experience)
Annual leave: 27days (including 2 x days for Eid)
Pension: Auto-enrolment pension scheme with employer contribution
Probation: 6 months (extendable); formal reviews at 3 and 6 months against agreed objectives
Notice: 1 month during probation; 1 month thereafter

Role purpose

The Finance Officer's role is for supporting the UKIM Branches in gathering information, consolidating the branch accounts, training the branch treasurers/ accounts focal persons, ensuring that the branches upload financial data on the accounting software/ platform. The postholder will be accountable to, the Head of Finance and/ or UKIM Treasurer in maintaining effective financial controls in relation to the UKIM branches, will also be responsible for maintaining the asset register, calculate depreciation, list of UKIM properties.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Head of Finance in ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of all aspects of Finance across all UKIM;
• Assist the Head of Finance with financial management, treasury, loans, accounting support and general advice.
• Responsible for the production and delivery of timely and accurate financial information.
• Responsible for timely processing of branch accounts and liaising with UKIM branch treasures to obtain financial and accounting records.
• Ensuring timely data input in accounting software for branches and periodic reconciliations
• Provide training if required to branch treasurers or nominees.
• Assist Head of Finance during annual audit of the statutory accounts including management accounts.
• Maintain systems to enable relevant Managers to have up to date financial overview of UKIM project spending, across all departments.
• Collection of funds and issuing receipts.
• Competency required in Accounting software such as Capium. Sage, IRIS, Quick Books and Xero or iPlicit
• Extracting data from WorldPay Merchant Web Donations, Cardsave Merchant, Cheque Deposit spreadsheets and FastPay direct debit spreadsheets.
• Dealing with expenses and petty cash.
• Responding to relevant telephone, post and email enquiries.
• Dealing with supplier invoices and queries.
• Depositing cheques in the bank accounts, which includes:
• Extracting data from the UKIM Info system.
• Sorting each cheque according to the bank account it needs to be deposited in.
• Double checking that all amounts on the cheques are correct and correctly entered in the finance system.
• Going to the bank with all the cheques and relevant deposit slips.
• Assistance in preparing the branch accounts.
• Data entry during Appeals.
• Assistance in the preparation of gift aid claims.

The post holder may be required to undertake other reasonable duties within the scope of their role and in line with the needs of UKIM.

Person specification

Essential

• Ideally Qualified or Part-qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent) with significant post-qualification experience. Qualified by experience can be considered.
• Track record leading finance in a charity or complex multi-site setting; knowledge of Charity SORP, GAAP, PAYE, Corporation Tax, VAT, Gift Aid and charity law.
• Demonstrable experience of improving financial controls, processes and management information.
• Strong analytical skills; advanced Excel and competence with modern accounting/ERP systems.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex information to non-finance stakeholders.
• People management experience and commitment to coaching and developing teams.
• High integrity, sound judgement and a collaborative approach.

Desirable

• Experience supporting branch-based or federated charity structures.
• Experience in capital projects and programme/grant finance.
• Familiarity with dashboarding/BI tools.
