Job Description

SF Partners is recruiting a Finance Manager for an ambitious, fast-growing technology and product business based in Birmingham.

This is a broad, hands-on position with responsibility for the day-to-day finance function across UK and US entities. You will take ownership of everything from bookkeeping and month-end reporting through to cash forecasting, inventory accounting, compliance and fundraising support.

It would suit an experienced Finance Manager, Financial Controller or Company Accountant who enjoys working within an SME environment and is comfortable operating both strategically and in the detail.

The role

  • Maintain accurate ledgers and complete bank, card and payment-platform reconciliations.
  • Produce monthly management accounts, including the P&L, balance sheet, cash flow and supporting commentary.
  • Manage VAT returns, HMRC requirements and wider statutory deadlines.
  • Oversee payroll, RTI submissions, pensions and auto-enrolment.
  • Manage supplier payments, credit control, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Produce rolling 13-week and 12-month cash-flow forecasts.
  • Manage banking, treasury and foreign exchange across GBP and USD.
  • Take ownership of inventory accounting, including raw materials, work in progress, finished goods, landed costs and unit margins.
  • Reconcile ecommerce orders, payouts, fees and refunds to the finance system.
  • Support R&D tax relief claims by gathering and maintaining appropriate financial evidence.
  • Maintain Companies House filings, shareholder records and EIS documentation.
  • Coordinate US entity compliance, tax filings and sales-tax requirements alongside external advisers.
  • Maintain strong financial controls and ensure the business remains audit-ready.
  • Support fundraising activity through KPI reporting, financial information and due-diligence requests.
  • Improve finance processes and automate repetitive work where appropriate.

The ideal candidate

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, although strong qualified-by-experience candidates will also be considered.
  • Extensive hands-on finance experience within an SME, startup or owner-managed business.
  • Comfortable managing the full finance cycle, from transactional accounting through to management accounts and board-level reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of VAT, payroll, cash-flow forecasting and financial controls.
  • Experience of inventory accounting within a product, manufacturing, engineering, ecommerce or distribution business.
  • Confident working with senior stakeholders, operational teams and external advisers.
  • Practical, organised and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable experience

  • Xero Advisor or QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification.
  • Exposure to US accounting, tax or entity requirements.
  • Experience supporting R&D tax relief claims.
  • Ecommerce or direct-to-consumer finance experience.
  • Experience working across both UK and US entities.

This is an excellent opportunity to take real ownership of the finance function within a growing business. You will work closely with senior leadership and play an important role in strengthening the systems, controls and financial insight needed to support continued growth.
