Job Description

We're looking for a Strategic Director for Local Government Reorganisation for our public sector client based in Chelmsford on an initial 6-month contract paying up to £1,100 per day, or on a FTC basis at £155,884 per annum depending on experience.

This role offers flexible hybrid working with an expectation to attend the office to support business needs as required.

Our client is embarking on one of the most ambitious local government transformation programmes in the country, reshaping council structures and governance arrangements to create new unitary authorities serving over 1.8 million residents. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive and working closely with the Leader of the Council, you will provide strategic leadership at the heart of this once-in-a-generation programme.

You will need proven experience working with the following:

  • Leading large-scale transformation, organisational change or strategic programmes within local government or the wider public sector
  • Operating effectively within complex political environments, building trusted relationships with senior elected members, Chief Executives and partner organisations
  • Programme leadership across large-scale organisational change, including governance, risk and dependency management
  • Developing and implementing engagement strategies across diverse stakeholder groups including politicians, employees and public sector partners
  • Working collaboratively across organisational and system boundaries to deliver shared outcomes
  • Translating strategic vision into effective delivery within complex, evolving environments

This role demands a resilient, politically astute and highly credible senior leader who can operate with confidence at the most senior levels and lead through ambiguity.
