Job Description


Our client BAE Systems, a leading player in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a Product Development Engineer for a 12-month contract based in Glascoed. This role offers an exciting opportunity to support the design and development of defence products. Working four days a week on site, with Fridays off, you will be involved in a wide range of engineering activities across the entire product lifecycle.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the product design and systems engineering activities for both new and legacy products
  • Conducting and managing product and process design, development, testing, manufacturing, and evaluation activities
  • Ensuring safety remains the highest priority in all working practices
  • Planning, executing, and reporting on product trials in a safe and suitable manner
  • Applying effective Engineering Governance throughout the product development lifecycle, supporting design reviews from concept to disposal
  • Maintaining and configuring Engineering Bills of Materials for products
  • Performing product design and evaluation, including the use of Pugh Matrices, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)
  • Supporting the generation of costed proposals for external customers
  • Managing cross-functional stakeholder relationships to support project and proposal delivery


Job Requirements:

  • Proven record in supporting engineering teams and projects
  • Strong engineering skills, particularly in identifying issues, conducting technical analysis, and presenting solutions
  • Academic qualifications in Engineering or related STEM subjects
  • Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status through an appropriate professional institution, or working towards it


Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with product design analysis techniques such as Pugh, DFMEA, and FTA
  • Experience with process design analysis techniques like PCP and PFMEA
  • Knowledge of munitions design and manufacture
  • Safety Management qualifications such as IOSH Managing Safety or NEBOSH Certificate
  • Experience and knowledge of manufacturing in a high hazard environment
  • Working knowledge of Systems Engineering and Engineering design
