Job Description

Mechanical Design Engineer Egham Salary: £30,000 - £40,000 DOE We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our client's engineering team, responsible for designing and delivering high-quality mechanical system elements for advanced simulation systems. This includes producing full manufacturing packages (GA drawings, detailed drawings, and BOMs) and supporting projects from concept through to production. You may also take ownership of projects as a Lead Engineer, managing timelines, coordinating stakeholders, and ensuring designs are delivered on time, to specification, and within budget.Key Responsibilities
  • Design mechanical assemblies and system elements (e.g. actuators, manifolds, bearings, load cells)
  • Produce detailed manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and hydraulic schematics
  • Ensure compliance with relevant directives (e.g. CE/UKCA, Machinery & Pressure Equipment)
  • Apply Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) principles
  • Conduct design reviews and support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain technical documentation and project trackers
  • Support production, testing, and supplier queries
  • Assist with risk assessments, manuals, and system builds when required
Skills & Experience
  • HND/Degree in Mechanical Engineering or 2+ years relevant experience
  • Strong background in hydraulic/pneumatic systems or precision mechanical design
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (ideally SolidWorks)
  • Experience producing drawings to BS 8888, including GD&T and tolerance analysis
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and cost-effective design
  • Familiarity with MRP systems and Microsoft Office tools
  • Practical engineering experience (e.g. heavy machinery, fabrication, pipework) desirable
  • Willingness to travel internationally when required
