The RoleThis is a position sitting within our R&D team, reporting to the R&D Team Lead. You'll take ownership of the mechanical design of our sensor housings and measurement devices from early concept through to production-ready builds. You will be working across waterproofing, materials selection, prototyping, and iterative improvement.
This is a hands-on, independent role that suits someone who thrives solving real engineering problems with clean, considered design.
What You'll Be Doing- Designing and developing waterproof housings and enclosures for electronic sensor equipment (IP67 and above, including subsea environments)
- Taking designs from concept to prototype using variety of manufacturing methods and partners.
- Conducting structured tests and maintaining thorough, documented results
- Ensuring designs are production-ready: optimised for manufacture, repeatability and cost
- Driving continuous improvement based on customer feedback and in-house testing
- Collaborating with the wider R&D team and third-party suppliers to develop and manufacture components
- Contributing to expanding the team's in-house simulation and testing capabilities
- Selecting the best materials for demanding environments e.g. seawater, freshwater, chemicals, vibration and shock
What We're Looking For- Demonstrable experience in mechanical design for physical products, ideally sensors, instrumentation or similar precision devices
- Strong 3D CAD skills (Fusion 360, Solid Works)
- Proven track record designing for waterproofing and environmental protection.
- Experience taking products from prototype to production-ready designs
- Methodical approach to testing, documentation and iteration
- Comfortable working independently
Desirable if you have: injection moulding design experience familiarity with sealing technologies, gasket design, optics and optical systems.
