St Catharine's College is seeking a skilled and experienced Gardener to support the Head Gardener in delivering the highest standards of horticultural care across our gardens and College sites. This is a hands on, practical role involving lawn care, planting, pruning, border maintenance, and seasonal tasks. You will work both independently when required and collaboratively across a variety of attractive and historic college settings, contributing to the College's commitment to excellent horticulture and sustainable gardening.
With your help, we have ambitious plans to systematically improve and enhance our borders, lawns and shrubberies to show the very best of horticulture through the flowers we grow, the grass we meticulously care for and the wildlife that joins us along the way. Following a period of building works, in the coming months we will be replanting the Master's garden to provide a tropical display of some unusual and impactful plants, providing the wow factor to this private space. Applying more Beth Chatto style planting at our more modern student accommodation will also support local wildlife in some creative, new ways.
You will join a small friendly team including the newly appointed part time Gardener and Robert Day, Head Gardener (in post since spring 2025) to help maintain and improve the gardens across St Catharine's, comprising of both historic main site and more modern accommodation which is constantly evolving.
We aim to create a welcoming, relaxing environment for staff, students, and Fellows to enjoy whilst driving biodiversity initiatives across the College.
