Job Title: Law Costs Draftsperson / Costs Lawyer (Hybrid)
Location: Manchester (1 day per week in office)
Salary: £35000-£50000 DOE
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (4 days remote / 1 day office-based)
About the Role
We are recruiting on behalf of a well established and respected law firm based in central Manchester. They are seeking an experienced Law Costs Draftsperson or Costs Lawyer to join their dedicated in house Costs team.
This is an exciting opportunity for a legal costs professional with a minimum of 3 years' experience, especially in Housing Disrepair (HDR) and Financial Mis Selling (FMS) cases. The successful candidate will handle a varied caseload of high value matters and contribute to all aspects of legal costs drafting, budgeting, negotiations, and assessment preparation.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare Bills of Costs and Budgets (Precedent H)
- Draft Points of Dispute and Replies
- Handle costs negotiations with opposing solicitors and insurers
- Draft Statements of Costs for Summary Assessment
- Prepare Schedules of Costs for negotiations
- Manage Applications for interim costs certificates and payments on account
- Prepare and issue Part 8 Proceedings
- Request Default Costs Certificates, where appropriate
- Provide clear and accurate costs related legal advice to clients
- Prepare Provisional and Detailed Assessment documents
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 3 years' experience in legal costs work within a fast paced, high volume setting
- Strong experience in HDR and/or FMS casework preferred
- Proficiency with Proclaim case management system
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Confident using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Experience with the Electronic Bill of Costs essential
