About the Role

The Biodiversity Officer will take the lead in BGLC's activities regarding the management of culturally significant species throughout the region. Working with other BGLC teams and external partners, this role will drive programs to improve cultural and scientific understanding of these species and safeguard their wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake programs for the monitoring and conservation of Culturally significant species on Country
  • Engage with Wotjobaluk Traditional Owners and the wider community to foster understanding and appreciation for Culturally significant species
  • Engage with partners in government, research and educational institutions to create opportunities in Cultural biodiversity
  • Manage project goals, including timelines, budgets and reporting
Key Selection Criteria
  • Demonstrated experience in animal care, ecology or a related field
  • Understanding and appreciation of Culturally significant species and their place in Culture and the environment
  • Excellent stakeholder management and ability to advocate for project outcomes to a variety of different partners
  • Reasonable physical fitness to move around large outdoor sites and manage energetic animals
  • Ability to independently manage projects and deliver outcomes
  • Unrestricted manual driver licence (or ability to obtain)
