Job Description

The role

In this role, you'll organise a range of in-person, hybrid, and online events for the Accelerated Compute Infrastructure Training Hub (ACIT Hub), including workshops, training weeks, and more.

You'll be responsible for all the logistics of the events and making sure everything runs smoothly and within budget. It will be important for you to ensure all events are inclusive, accessible, and recognise the importance of diversity in our field.

While following guidance from the Hub lead, you'll have freedom in how to achieve the goals of the position and your priorities. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the delivery of a major new national training programme.

Some travel to events across the country and working outside of core hours will occasionally be required.

We operate a hybrid remote working model and for this role you will be expected to work on campus at least 1 day a week.

About us

The ACIT-Hub is a new project that provides professional development and training opportunities to technical experts working with supercomputers hardware.

Our mission is to create a professional network for these experts and draw on their knowledge and experience to develop a national-scale training program. It will establish recognised qualifications and encourage diverse routes into the field for people of all backgrounds, increasing the creativity and ingenuity of the field.

The project is a collaboration between the University of Surrey, University of Oxford, University of Sheffield, Imperial College London and University of Bristol.

We are an inclusive and supportive team and ensure all our colleagues follow this ethos to allow everyone to perform their best.

About you

We're looking for someone with experience in all aspects of event planning and delivery, who can confidently handle every stage from venue booking, catering, hybrid AV setup, accessibility, and anything else needed to run a successful and enjoyable event for everyone.

You don't need to know about accelerated compute or work in research infrastructure for this role; your skills and experience with events are much more important! A background in Higher Education or Tech is welcomed but not essential.

If you're highly organised, proactive, passionate about EDI, a good communicator, and love putting on great events, then we want to hear from you!

Benefits

We believe that the University of Surrey is a fantastic place to work. We are dedicated to creating a dynamic, flexible and enjoyable environment in which people can thrive. Our beautiful campus is an inspiring setting for transformative education and innovative research.

We offer:

  • Annual Incremental pay rise
  • Flexible hybrid remote working
  • Market-leading pension up to 30%
  • 32 Days Holiday Pro rata (PLUS Bank Holidays!)
  • Salary Sacrifice Benefits including subsidised rail fare, cycle to work and on-site childcare
  • Discounted access to world-class fitness facilities
  • Relocation assistance where appropriate

We celebrate diversity and welcome applications from all backgrounds, particularly those under-represented in technology and research.

While this role is part-time, it could be combined with another part-time role to make full-time hours if desired, and we encourage candidates to talk to us about their preferences. We have a part time administrative role available and you can find the job description below.

Please apply via the University of Surrey website, where you will be asked to complete some questions to help us understand your suitability for the role.
