Geotechnical Director - Reading - £75,000-£80,000

An established multidisciplinary consultancy in Reading is looking to appoint a Geotechnical Director to lead technical delivery, drive business development, and oversee contractor procurement across a varied project portfolio.

This role offers a strong mix of leadership, hands-on engineering, and commercial responsibility, with projects spanning residential developments, rail infrastructure, and sustainability-focused schemes.

The Role As Geotechnical Director, you will:

  • Lead and grow the geotechnical division, setting technical standards and mentoring junior staff
  • Take ownership of business development, building relationships with new and existing clients
  • Oversee geotechnical design, including foundation solutions, ground improvement, and earthworks
  • Manage procurement and coordination of ground investigation and specialist contractors
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams on residential and rail projects
  • Support and contribute to sustainability-led design approaches and low-carbon solutions
  • Play a key role in strategic planning and direction of the business

Requirements

  • Strong background in geotechnical engineering or engineering geology
  • Proven experience in a senior or leadership role
  • Track record in business development and winning work
  • Solid technical design experience across residential and/or rail projects
  • Experience managing contractors and overseeing site operations
  • Chartered status (or working towards) preferred
