Job Description

United Utilities are looking for a highly organised, detail-driven individual to join the Central Trade Effluent team on a permanent basis. This is a key Trade Effluent Analyst role supporting both the immediate team and the wider Trade Effluent and Wholesale Market Services teams.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys problem solving, thrives under pressure, and has strong IT capability, particularly with systems such as JIRA and WALTO. You'll play an important part in ensuring our market performance, regulatory compliance, and customer experience remain at the highest standard.

What the role involves

As a Trade Effluent Analyst, you will:

  • Produce and quality-check Trade Effluent Consent and Variation documents, ensuring they are completed and issued within statutory and market SLAs.
  • Maintain the Public Register of Trade Effluent Consents on the UU external website.
  • Manage the Trade Effluent JIRA work queue, allocating tasks to the wider team and responding to retailer enquiries.
  • Maintain consistency of Trade Effluent data across TEMS, WALTO, CMOS, supporting accurate wholesale-retail settlement and customer charging.
  • Handle queries via the TEQUERY mailbox, responding directly or allocating where appropriate.
  • Process private meter exchanges and ensure non-primary TE charges are entered into the market correctly and on time.
  • Support regulatory reporting, including the Annual Regulatory Return and Pollution Inventory Return (PIR).
  • Provide Trade Effluent data to teams across the business through ad-hoc requests.
  • Work with system support teams to resolve TEMS issues and participate in system testing (TEMS, WALTO, JIRA) for new releases.
  • Support improvements to systems, processes, and operational procedures.
  • Provide guidance on Trade Effluent policy and market requirements and assist with training new team members.

You'll work closely with a small, experienced team while also collaborating regularly with colleagues across the wider Trade Effluent function.

Skills & Experience
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, especially when working at pace.
  • Confident working under pressure and meeting strict deadlines without compromising quality.
  • Good IT capability including experience with TEMS, CMOS, JIRA and WALTO is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of Trade Effluent legislation, charging rules, and market processes (or willingness to develop this quickly).
  • Excellent planning, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Clear and confident communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A self-motivated approach and the ability to manage your own workload effectively.
  • Strong teamwork skills and a willingness to support colleagues across the wider Trade Effluent function.
Why Apply? This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop specialist knowledge in a unique and high-impact area of the business, build skills across regulation, data management, market operations and customer charging, work closely with experienced analysts to deepen your understanding of wholesale market processes, and contribute directly to compliance, performance, and revenue accuracy across the organisation.

Benefits:

  • 26 days' annual leave (rising to 30) plus bank holidays
  • Competitive pension (up to 14% employer contribution)
  • Performance-related bonus
  • Company-funded healthcare plan
  • Retail discounts, gym savings and wellbeing support
  • EV salary sacrifice scheme
  • ShareBuy scheme
  • Enhanced parental leave
  • Flexible benefits through MORE Choices

If you thrive in a detail-focused, data-rich environment and enjoy working with both systems and people, this could be the perfect next step.
