Electrical Design & PLC Control Systems Engineer (Dual Role)

Remote role with travel across the UK & Northern Ireland

Depending on experience

We are recruiting for a rapidly growing client led by two highly experienced and well-networked Directors. The company specialises in bespoke control panel solutions across multiple sectors, with particular expertise in conveyor-based systems.

Due to continued growth, they are now seeking a strong Electrical Design Engineer with EPLAN experience who can also take ownership of PLC programming, installation, or commissioning duties, making this a true dual-role opportunity.

About the Role

This is an excellent opportunity for a well-rounded engineer who enjoys combining detailed electrical design work with hands-on automation and project delivery.

The successful candidate will play a key role in designing bespoke control panels using EPLAN while also supporting programming, installation, and commissioning activities across various customer sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Electrical Design (Primary Focus)
  • Produce detailed electrical schematics using EPLAN
  • Design bespoke control panels for conveyor and automation systems
  • Develop panel layouts, wiring diagrams, cable schedules and BOMs
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant UK and industry standards
  • Liaise with workshop and site teams to support build and implementation
  • Secondary Responsibilities (Automation / Site Work)
  • Program and develop PLC software (Siemens TIA Portal desirable)
  • SCADA and HMI configuration
  • Modify existing PLC programs to meet client specifications
  • Support installation and on-site commissioning of control systems
  • Troubleshoot and test PLC systems both off-site and on-site
  • Support configuration of automation and control devices

What We're Looking For

  • Strong electrical design experience using EPLAN (essential)
  • Experience in PLC programming (Siemens preferred)
  • Background working with conveyors or material handling systems
  • Experience with electrical control panels and automation systems
  • Ability to work independently in a remote role with UK travel
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Experience in logistics, packaging, or airport industries desirable but not essential
