Director, Operations & Strategic Projects
We are seeking a Director, Operations & Strategic Projects to act as the operational engine of The Trust. Reporting to the SVP, this role sits at the intersection of strategy and execution, translating leadership priorities into well structured projects, scalable workflows, and measurable outcomes.
This is a player coach role for a senior project leader who is equally comfortable setting direction and rolling up their sleeves. You will bring clarity to complexity, optimise how our global teams work together, and lead the organisation through its next phase of operational and AI driven evolution.
The Trust The Wall Street Journal
The Trust is the global custom content, experiences, and events studio of The Wall Street Journal. We partner with some of the world's most influential organisations to deliver authoritative storytelling and carefully curated experiences at global scale.
As the business continues to grow, we are building the operational foundations needed to scale with consistency, quality, and impact.
You Will Lead Strategic Projects and Execution
- Own the end to end delivery of high impact strategic initiatives, from scoping and stakeholder alignment through to execution, tracking, and delivery
- Act as a force multiplier for the SVP, converting strategic priorities into clear roadmaps with milestones, KPIs, and ownership
- Establish and embed consistent project governance, providing visibility into progress, risks, and resourcing across the portfolio
Enable Cross Functional Collaboration
- Serve as the connective tissue across Content, Events, Design, Engineering, and Operations teams in the US and internationally
- Ensure complex, multi disciplinary initiatives remain on track, on budget, and aligned to business priorities
- Build a deep understanding of team roles and workflows to design more efficient and scalable ways of working
Drive AI Integration and Change
- Lead the rollout, adoption, and ongoing optimisation of AI tools across the studio, treating AI readiness as a core operational capability
- Partner with technology vendors to assess, pilot, and integrate tools that enhance content production, discoverability, and decision making
- Drive change management through training, communication, and feedback loops to ensure tools are adopted effectively
Build Operational Excellence
- Audit and evolve the operating model to reduce friction and improve delivery velocity, using appropriate project management methodologies such as Agile or Lean
- Partner with Finance to manage the resourcing mix across employees, freelancers, and external partners
- Define clear decision rights and escalation paths to support fast, confident decision making as the organisation scales
Support Financial and People Leadership
- Support budget planning and tracking for strategic projects, identifying opportunities for efficiency and cost optimisation
- Introduce clear frameworks and standards that enable managers to lead their teams with greater accountability and confidence
You Have Experience and Expertise
- Demonstrable experience in senior operations or project leadership roles within a creative studio, custom content environment, or high performance media organisation
- Proven experience delivering complex, large scale initiatives across multiple global stakeholders
- Strong working knowledge of project management methodologies; formal certification such as PMP, Prince2, or Agile is a plus
Technical and Strategic Capability
- Practical experience implementing new technologies, including AI tools, into established workflows
- Ability to simplify complex problems and design processes that support, rather than constrain, creative teams
Leadership and Influence
- Comfortable influencing without direct authority in a matrixed environment
- High emotional intelligence, sound judgment, and the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, outcomes focused approach
Global Mindset
- Comfortable working across time zones and, when needed, during US business hours
- Willingness to travel occasionally to support alignment across international teams
Why This Role Matters
This role is foundational to The Trust's next stage of growth. You will not simply manage projects; you will build the operational infrastructure that allows one of the world's most respected creative studios to innovate and scale with confidence. As ambitions grow, your work ensures delivery remains consistent, efficient, and high quality.
