Policy & Support Officer
Team: Business Operations
Reporting to: Head of Business Operations

Location: Sheffield, S1
Contract Type: Temporary

Hours: 37 hours a week flexible working
Pay Rate: £18.62 per hour

Role Purpose

This role provides proactive, professional, and confidential support to Executive and Senior Directors, enabling them to operate efficiently and effectively. The postholder plays a central role in ensuring smooth day-to-day operations, supporting strategy delivery, and maintaining high standards of service across the organisation.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Acting as first point of contact for internal and external stakeholders
  • Managing complex diaries, appointments, meetings and travel arrangements
  • Proactively managing inboxes and prioritising urgent matters
  • Drafting professional correspondence aligned to organisational priorities
  • Delivering high-quality operational and business support to Executive Team and Directors
  • Commissioning and supporting production of briefings, reports, and presentations
  • Undertaking research and preparing performance analysis reports
  • Managing and coordinating specific projects through to completion
  • Servicing meetings including agenda setting, minute taking and action tracking
  • Leading organisation of directorate-wide events within budget
  • Coordinating briefing and speech requests
  • Undertaking additional duties as required

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and internet-based research
  • Strong collaborative working experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, confident engaging at all levels
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strategic thinking ability with proactive problem-solving skills
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret large volumes of information

  • Professionalism in fast-paced, high-pressure environments

Desirable:

  • Degree-level education or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of Local Government practice and governance
  • Experience drafting presentations and briefings
