Locum Consultant radiologist (interest in paediatric imaging)

Applicants are invited to apply for a Locum Consultant Radiologist post with a specialist interest in paediatric imaging (10PAs). The post has arisen due to maternity leave. Applicants wishing to work part time are encouraged to apply and will be accommodated if successful. Start date 1st June for one year duration. The post will be based at St Marys and Queen Charlottes Hospital. St Marys Hospital is a centre for paediatric infectious disease, paediatric haematology and oncology (Level 2). There is a large bone marrow transplant unit, a busy general paediatric department and an established PICU. There are two neonatal units across the two sites (St Mary's hospital & Queen Charlottes Hospital) with two dedicated NICUs. St Mary's Hospital is the paediatric trauma centre for north west London. There is a paediatric surgery service in combination with Chelsea NHS trust. The imaging department supports busy A&E departments, UCC centres and general practitioners.

The successful candidate will have completed formal training in radiology and will have experience in paediatric radiology.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate's clinical work will involve reporting paediatric plain radiographs and cross-sectional imaging, performing paediatric ultrasound and fluoroscopy and attending paediatric MDT meetings. The candidate will be fully supported by the existing paediatric radiology team.

Close collaboration with the paediatric radiology team and clinicians in the management of patients will be paramount.

The appointee will contribute to the general work in the department, including duty "hot desk" reporting and general CT reporting. There is no-call commitment with this post however the post-holder will be expected to contribute to the "hot" duty rota reporting, evening and weekend general reporting rotas.

A strong interest in teaching and training will be welcomed to support the radiology training scheme, sonographers and reporting radiographers. There will be ample opportunities for audit and research projects in line with the candidate's interests.

The post will be mainly based at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington and Queen Charlotte's Hospital, Hammersmith.

For a whole-time contract: A total of 10 PAs

Clinical Activities: 9 PAs per week (including clinical activity, clinically related activity, predictable and unpredictable emergency work)

Supporting Professional Activities: 1 PAs per week (including audit, clinical governance, CPD, teaching, research, educational supervision of junior staff and CPD)

Monday am Reporting Neonatal MDT pm Paediatric Ultrasound

Tuesday am Paediatric MDT/ Paediatric fluoroscopy pm General/CT Reporting

Wednesday am Reporting pm Paediatric ultrasound

Thursday am SPA pm Reporting

Friday am General/CT Reporting HOT session 11-13 pm Paediatric ultarsound

Regular meetings: There are various MDT and departmental/ divisional meetings which the post-holder will attend as required.

The applicants must hold their CCT in Radiology or be on the GMC Speciality Register, or be within 6 months of being granted a CCT. Candidates who wish to work only part-time are encouraged to apply, as are applicants interested in job-sharing.

Person Specification Education & Qualification
  • On GMC register with a Licence to Practice or eligible to apply for GMC registration and a Licence to Practice
  • On GMC's Specialist Register or within 6 months of being admitted to the register by the date of the interviews or equivalent at the time of the interview.
  • Appropriate Royal College membership
Knowledge & Skills
  • Formal subspecialty training in paediatric imaging including fluoroscopy, CT and MRI
  • IT Skills and computer literacy
  • General radiology skills in plain radiography, ultrasound, CT and MRI
Leadership & Management Skills
  • Able to take responsibility, show leadership, make decisions, exert appropriate authority
  • Have proven skills in leading, motivating, developing and managing the performance of colleagues.
  • Management of staff
  • Knowledge of finance/budgets
Teaching & Training
  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduates/ postgraduates and junior medical staff
Academic achievements
  • Evidence of achievement appropriate to appointment at consultant level at ICHT
Language and communication skills
  • Able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements
