Our client, a recognised leader within the Defence & Security industry, is seeking a skilled Infrastructure Virtualisation Engineer for a contract role. This position involves supporting critical virtualisation infrastructure that underpins national security platforms. You will be working within the technical team responsible for designing, developing, and validating virtual estate components essential to mission-critical systems. Your expertise will help ensure the stability, resilience, and security of vital virtual infrastructure used by Defence operations.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, build, and validate virtualisation components within the NSoIT(D) Platform
  • Produce and review design artefacts at all levels
  • Support system testing activities and assist with troubleshooting of virtual environments
  • Collaborate with service management teams to resolve infrastructure issues rapidly
  • Document technical solutions and ensure compliance with security standards


Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in IT infrastructure with a strong focus on virtualisation
  • Proven knowledge of VMware ESXi and associated features such as Distributed Virtual Switches, Distributed Resource Scheduler, Distributed Power Management, VMware vSAN, and VMware vCenter
  • Experience with VMware NSX, Horizon, AppVolumes, and AppStacks
  • Strong understanding of secure architecture development within complex environments
  • Ability to troubleshoot virtualisation components and support production systems
  • Relevant virtualisation certifications such as VMware VCP or equivalent obtained within the last five years
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Hold a valid Security Clearance (SC)


Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Experience of working within Defence or public sector environments, particularly Defence Digital
  • Knowledge of delivering secure solutions in UK Public Sector schemes
  • Experience with Agile (SAFE4) and Waterfall project methodologies
  • Familiarity with large-scale virtualisation infrastructures and networking certifications such as CCNA or VMware NSX-DC
  • Background in developing secure multi-tenant architectures
  • Educational background in Computer Science at bachelor's or master's level
  • Chartered Engineer status is advantageous
