Thisis a 10PA locum appointment for a Consultant Paediatric Haematology, withspecial interests in Malignant Haematology and Stem Cell Transplantation.
Thepost will be based at Leeds General Infirmary.
Weare looking for an enthusiastic haematologist to join the current paediatrichaematology consultants with a focus on malignant haematology and stem celltransplantation.
Thesuccessful applicant should possess MB ChB or equivalent qualification andshould be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at thetime of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. Inaccordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories ofdoctors must be on the Specialist Register.
Applicantsshould have established skills in Paediatric Haematology and its relatedspecialties including malignant haematology and stem cell transplantation. Astrong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a researchinterest is desirable.

Main duties of the jobOBJECTIVESOF THE POST
Toprovide, with consultant & multi-disciplinary colleagues in the paediatrichaematology and oncology team, an emergency and elective regional service forchildren and young people with haematological disorders, with particularresponsibility for leukaemia and haematopoietic stem cell transplant.
Toshare on-call responsibility with the other consultants in the paediatrichaematology and oncology team. This comprises an attending on call for thewhole service and also a commitment to the non-malignant haematology telephoneadvice on call rota if appropriately trained. If the appointee is trainedappropriately to join the non-malignant haematology rota for telephone advice,then their attending on call commitment will be reduced.
Toprovide advice and support to the other paediatric specialists in LeedsChildrens Hospital and to those caring for children and young people in otherhospitals who refer to Leeds.
Toparticipate in the multi-professional paediatric clinical governanceprogrammes, and clinical management meetings.
Toparticipate in education, supervision and training of junior medical staff.
Toparticipate in the active departmental research programme and/or developappropriate research interests that will benefit the service.
To be responsible for the day-to-day care of the pediatric and young adult haematology inpatients with haematologicaldisorders, including leukaemia and those undergoing stem cell transplant.
Job responsibilities3.REQUIREMENTS OF THE POST
3.1General Training and QualificationsTheappointee must hold MB ChB or equivalent qualification and have completedhigher specialist training (or equivalent) if currently in a training programmewithin the UK.
Applicantsmust be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted tothe Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK orhave references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director andClinical Director.
Applicantsmust provide information regarding their status from the GMC and/or relevantRoyal College at the time of application, in order for their application to beprogressed further.
3.2ExperienceTheappointee must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience andcompetence in all aspects of Paediatric Haematology and in particular Stem CellTransplantation. It is desirable that the candidates have experience in theconduct of clinical trials.
3.3Person specification 3.4Clinical AuditTheappointee will be expected to contribute and, where appropriate, take the leadin the following:
Thisis to be included in allocated time in the individuals job plan as a supportingprogrammed activity. It would be expected that the time allocated for thiswould include attendance at the relevant departmental audit meeting(s) and thatsuch attendance would be recorded (in accordance with the Trusts clinical auditpolicy).
Inthe discharge of these responsibilities the candidate will be expected tomaintain and update his/her skills and knowledge through appropriate continuingmedical education.
4.TEACHINGTheTrust as a teaching hospital recognises the importance of links with theUniversity of Leeds, School of Medicine for the undergraduate teaching and allConsultant and medical staff are required to provide an appropriatecontribution to the undergraduate teaching programme.
Thepost-holder will be required to participate in the undergraduate teachingprogramme for the school of Medicine, University of Leeds, which is organisedon a speciality or clinical area basis.
Thepost-holder will be required to collaborate with clinical colleagues to deliverappropriate undergraduate teaching in accordance with the Trust contract withthe NHS Executive in association with the University of Leeds.
5.JOB PLAN AND WORKING ARRANGEMENTSThejob plan review will take place annually, normally with the Clinical Directoror Lead Clinician for Paediatric Haematology and Oncology. The annual job planreview may result in a revised job plan. There may be an interim review of thejob plan where duties, responsibilities, accountability arrangements orobjectives have changed or need to change significantly within the area.
5.1Proposed Job PlanThe post consists of 10PAs with 8.5 PAs of directclinical care (DCC) and 1.5 PAs of supporting professional activity (SPA).
