The Senior Project Manager will strengthen Urenco UK s project delivery capability across its capital investment portfolio, with a particular focus on civil and mechanical engineering-led projects within a highly regulated environment.
This role carries responsibility for the end-to-end delivery of strategically significant projects, either one major programme or several smaller initiatives of high business importance. You will lead projects through the full lifecycle from set-up and initiation through implementation and close-out ensuring that business benefits are realised and sustained.
You will also mentor and guide junior project managers, supporting the development of robust project definitions, schedules, budgets, and delivery objectives.
A typical project team will consist of 5 20 direct reports, ranging from blue-collar trades through to highly qualified technical specialists (MSc and PhD level).
Key ResponsibilitiesOverall accountability for the delivery of civil and mechanical engineering projects against safety, scope, cost, schedule, and business benefit objectives
Develop and implement delivery strategies aligned to business objectives, with a strong focus on constructability, mechanical integration, and site execution
Communicate project strategy, objectives, and benefits to business unit and group stakeholders, ensuring alignment with organisational strategy
Analyse project requirements, regulatory constraints, and critical success factors, translating these into bespoke civil and mechanical delivery approaches
Lead and motivate high-performing, multidisciplinary project teams, fostering accountability and excellence
Actively promote a proactive nuclear safety culture, acting as a role model throughout the project lifecycle and across the Capenhurst site and wider Group
Manage complex contractual relationships, including civil works, mechanical installation packages, free-issue materials, specialist technology, and intellectual property
Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and vendors, ensuring effective performance across civil and mechanical scopes
Provide subject matter expert consulting and advice across the Urenco UK project portfolio and the wider Urenco business
Support the development and continuous improvement of the Group Project Delivery Strategy, aligned with Urenco UK s CAPEX objectives
Ensure knowledge is retained and transferred across Urenco, including leading lessons-learned reviews to drive continuous improvement
Leverage experience across multiple industry sectors, scanning the market for best practice in civil construction, mechanical installation, and asset delivery to enhance value creation and delivery
Strong civil and mechanical engineering background, with the ability to interface effectively with design, construction, and commissioning teams
Proven experience delivering civil and mechanical capital projects in highly regulated environments (nuclear, energy, or complex industrial)
Ability to manage ambiguity and confidently take accountability for project outcomes
Demonstrable track record of managing complex supplier and contractual arrangements
Extensive knowledge of EPC contractors, major EPS providers, and construction supply markets, particularly within civil and mechanical disciplines
Ability to leverage senior supplier relationships to Urenco s advantage
Excellent leadership and communication skills, with proven capability in building and leading high-performing teams
Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline
MBA or equivalent professional qualification
