Job Description

Prospero Teaching are seeking a dedicated 1:1 Learning Support Mentor to work with a secondary-aged pupil with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs at our client autism specialist school in Lyndhurst, Hampshire.

About the Role

As a 1:1 Support Mentor, you will work closely with one secondary-aged pupil, providing consistent, personalised support throughout the school day. Your role will involve:

  • Building a trusting, positive relationship that helps the pupil feel safe, understood, and motivated.
  • Supporting the pupil to regulate emotions, manage behaviour, and develop resilience.
  • Encouraging engagement in lessons by breaking down tasks, offering reassurance, and promoting independence.
  • Using restorative, trauma-informed, and proactive strategies to help the pupil navigate challenges.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals to ensure the pupil receives the right support.
  • Helping the pupil develop social skills, confidence, and a sense of belonging within the school community.

What We're Looking For

  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with young people.
  • GCSE English & Maths (grade C/level 4 or above).
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of behaviour as communication and a willingness to use positive, relationship-based approaches.
  • Resilience, adaptability, and a proactive mindset.
  • Experience in education, youth work, or care is beneficial, but passion and commitment are just as important.

Role Details

  • Hours: Mon-Tue: 08:30-16:30 Wed-Thu: 08:30-16:00 Fri: 08:30-15:00
  • Contract: Term-time only / Temp-to-Perm
  • Pay: From 14 per hour
  • Location: Lyndhurst, Hampshire

Requirements

  • Right to work in the UK
  • Enhanced Child Barred List DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
  • References covering the last 24 months
