Job Description

TheLeeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is looking for a highly motivated andproactive Senior Finance Officer to join our Management Accounting Team.

This is a key role in providing excellent financialmanagement support, working closely with both clinical and corporatedepartments to ensure sound financial decision-making. You will play a vitalpart in month end processes, financial analysis and reporting.

Main duties of the job

Thepurpose of the Senior Finance Officer role is to produce and provide routinefinancial monitoring information, as well as support and advice to budgetholders and finance colleagues across the Trust. The role acts as a key linkand point of support for a number of designated business units.

Thisinvolves carrying out routine management accounting tasks and responding today-to-day financial queries, in line with agreed timetables, procedures andquality standards.

The post holder will also support the Accountants inproducing timely and accurate financial information. This includes completingtasks on behalf of the team, as well as undertaking work that is less routineand more complex in nature.

PRINCIPALDUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Reportingand accounting:

Toproduce monthly financial statements and associated information for a numberof departments to an agreed timetable and in line with agreed processes andprocedures.

Interfaceswith budget holders/other customers:

Toact as the first point of contact for budget holders and monitors in terms ofroutine queries in respect of their financial information and day to daybudgetary management responsibilities. This will also require theorganisation of monthly budget holder meetings to discuss the month endfinancial reports in order to ensure their underlying accuracy and to dealwith immediate queries.

Costingand provision of other financial information:

Torespond to requests for the financial assessment of routine proposals,costing each element of expenditure or income contained within the proposal,making appropriate use of spreadsheets and standard costing information andguidance: presenting the information in a clear and concise manner suitablefor the recipient, advising budget holders of any potential issues.

Deliveryof cross-functional or cross team tasks

Toperform tasks which need to be co-ordinated by one individual, on behalf ofthe team.

Yearend accounting

Tocarry out year end accounting tasks in line with year end timetables.

Toparticipate in the production of annual budgets and ensuring high qualitystandards.

Person Specification Experience
  • Use of Microsoft Office including Excel and Word
  • Use of Oracle Ledger and reporting tools
  • Practical experience within Management Accounting, including detailed understanding of accounting procedures, financial ledgers, coding structures and interpreting financial information
  • Financial Management experience within the NHS

  • Good team working skills, able to carry out work with others and to provide informal training to less experienced or new members of the support team as required
Qualifications
  • 5 GCSE/O levels or equivalent, to include Maths and English
  • AAT Technician / NVQ Level 4 or equivalent
  • Evidence of Continued Professional development and/or commencement of professional qualification
